I was reading Matthew 24 today. As I came across the 34th verse, I realized something.

 I’m getting older.

The verse says: “Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” Matthew 24:34 ESV

“What difference does age make to this prophecy?” you ask.

Hear me out. Were you born yet when Israel’s rebirth came about? That happened on May 14th, 1948. My peers didn’t see it come to pass. My generation did see the Six-Day War in 1967 and in 1973, the Yom Kippur War, though we were born too late to see the re-emergence of a Jewish homeland. The state of Israel was still ‘new’, it was not yet 20 years old when I was born.

But my parents saw it. My mother was only 5 years old. My dad was 9 years old. That’s what age has to do with this prophecy. It has a very specific tie to Jesus’ words.

‘This generation’ is now in their 80s. Several years ago, Lovett H. Weems, Jr. wrote an article entitled “The Coming Death Tsunami” in which he noted that, while America is experiencing a relative stable death rate of .89%, that figure will dramatically increase. His calculations suggest that figure will escalate nearer to 10% between today and 2050 as Boomers pass away.

That caused me to consider. I constantly write about the days we live in growing darker. I persistently preach the promise of Jesus’ return in music and in the spoken word. And I’m not the only voice out there who sees the end of our days looming on the horizon. I don’t mean to suggest that I know when the Lord shall return for us – not at all. What I do mean is this:

Time IS short. Teach your children. Tell your neighbors.

Jesus is Coming SOON!
